Type to Learn
We use a typing program called Type to Learn 3 during a portion of computer class. This is a motivating program to teach students to use the keyboard correctly while having fun too. Research has shown that proficient typing skills in young children is linked with improved reading, writing, vocabulary and spelling skills. Learning to use the keyboard requires a great deal of practice, so making sure your child is using the correct keyboarding skills at home will be very helpful. Here are a few websites with keyboarding games and practice.

Reading Counts
Reading Counts is a software program all the classrooms use that manages and motivates independent reading for our students. After finishing a book, students log on to the computer and take a quiz, selecting from a group of four multiple-choice answers. Taking these quizzes gives students practice with multiple-choice questions they often see on standardized tests. Students are given quarterly prizes for the points they earn.
